CityLink Motorway, Melbourne

In 1998, the CityLink tollroad system revolutionised transport access for Melbourne’s inner-city and airport linkages, including the introduction of complex tunnels and an urban redesign which helped reshape the city. Egis was a key partner and sponsor in the successful bid for this major tollroad in partnership with a local Australian operations company.

On completion of construction, Egis’ role has continued as part of the operating company, TransLink Operation Pty Ltd with a 15-year contract for the operation and maintenance of the motorway.

CityLink was the first electronic-only tollroad in Australia. The technology for electronic tolling on CityLink was implemented by Egis and its local partner. The implementation risk associated with this technological achievement was carried by the private sector.

The concessionaire of the CityLink tollroad, Transurban Limited has become a highly successful ASX-listed infrastructure company.

Egis' roles included:

consortium member for project development
member of operations and maintenance company (Translink Operations) with 15 year contract
supply of electronic toll and traffic management system (Translink Systems)
